Description
An A/C receiver dryer is a cylindrical component found in most automotive air conditioning systems. It is typically located on the high-pressure side of the system, between the condenser and the expansion valve. The receiver dryer has three main functions:
- To remove moisture from the refrigerant. Moisture in the refrigerant can cause a number of problems, including corrosion, freezing, and reduced cooling performance. The receiver dryer contains a desiccant material that absorbs moisture from the refrigerant.
- To store liquid refrigerant. The receiver dryer acts as a temporary reservoir for liquid refrigerant. This helps to ensure that there is always enough refrigerant available to the expansion valve.
- To filter debris from the refrigerant. The receiver dryer contains a filter that removes dirt, metal particles, and other debris from the refrigerant. This helps to protect the other components of the A/C system from damage.
